Self-Loosening of a 3D-Printed Bolt by Using Three Different Materials under Cyclical Temperature Changes

Three-dimensional printing can bring huge advantages when fabricating difficult structures and components in industry. This technology is also used commonly for threaded fasteners the engineering field. The main disadvantage of threated self-loosening. In this study, an International Organization Standardization (ISO) standard M12 × 1.75 bolt nut were printed by using a 3D printer three types materials: acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS-2), poly lactic acid (PLA), glass. Following this, test system self-loosening 3D-printed bolts under cyclical temperature variations was constructed, bolted joints observed measuring preload load cell rotation displacement dial indicator according to changes (from 10 °C up 40 80 °C). experimental results show that ABS-2 has good performance terms phenomena changes, while PLA poor low changes. glass indicated lowest high
